PacSun USA Surf Team Continues its Advance through Early Rounds at the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships
All USA Surfers still remain in the Qualifying Rounds at Punta Hermosa
Punta Hermosa, Peru – Monday, May 23, 2011- The PacSun USA Surf Team continued to work hard during Day Two of the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships. Every surfer who entered the water for Team USA advanced and USA is now the only team in the event will all of its surfers still in the qualifying rounds.
Kulia Doherty went to bat first and set pace for the PacSun USA Surf Team by dominating her early morning heat with a solid combined score of 15.33. In fact, the pace was so good that USA girls Quincy Davis and Lakey Peterson matched it precisely; they both finished up their heats with the exact same heat score as Kulia’s.
Through the day of sunny skies and solid surf, the Under 18 men all advanced through their rounds as well. Derek Peters, Luke Davis, and Conner Coffin all won their heats. Also, Jake Halstead surfed twice today–winning in the early morning and finishing second in the late day. The Under 16 Boys had the day off today but continue in their Qualifying Round number two on the Senoritas podium first thing tomorrow morning.
“The Team did well today,” said Ian Cairns, Head Coach of the PacSun USA Surf Team. “They are figuring out the lineup and better managing wave selection and positioning. Now we need to stay focused and continue to notch it up heat-by-heat and day-by-day.”
The 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships will run through May 29th. Surfers from 27 nations are competing for medals in the largest field of competitors ever at an ISA Juniors event.
