Nathaniel’s (Nate Dogg) Stats:
The NSSA is proud to announce that Nathaniel Curran was named our first NSSA Surfer of the Month presented by TransWorld SURF. Nathaniel opened up the 2001/02 NSSA season with a bang! In the Gold Coast Explorer Season, Nathaniel took two consecutive victories in the Mens division (Nathaniel is a Junior age surfer in Explorer, but he surfs up in the Mens also) with wins at the season opener Mandalay contest on Sept. 1 and the Port Hueneme event #2 on Sept. 15. He took 2nd in the Juniors final at Mandalay and won the Juniors division at Port Hueneme. (Nathaniel just came off another huge victory in the Juniors division at last weekend’s Gold Coast Jalama event #3 where he schooled the competition winning by a 10.5 margin, but I don’t know if that counts because it was October). Nathaniel is currently ranked first in both the Gold Coast Mens and Juniors divisions. Nathaniel is also two for two in OSMAS- NSSA airshow competition winning both the Gold Coast airshow at Port Hueneme and the Southwest Open airshow atOceanside South Jetty on Sept. 19. In the Southwest Open ratings Nathaniel is sitting in 3rd, a slim 400 points behind leader Dane Reynolds. What’s the reason for his success? “I think not having pressure or anything for the last two months,” he says. “I’ve been surfing for fun more than anything¿I’m just stoked to surf.” He’s excited about the first ever surfer of the month and looks forward to this year’s Nationals, “I think I’m ready for Nationals¿I hope.” Congratulations go out to Nathaniel.
