The 2014 Drug Aware Margaret River Pro saw the same two finalists as the 2013 version and the same smiling Hawaiian atop the podium afterward. It's no coincidence that Tyler Wright and Carissa Moore were both back on the finals; the two stood out all week in the shifty, challenging conditions at Margaret River with their powerful brand of surfing. "It's a very challenging wave here at Margaret River and I'm constantly learning, so I'm thankful to be able to win here again. I love this place and I love Western Australia. It feels good to be up there at the top of the rankings with Stephanie [Gilmore] and I can't wait to see how the rest of the events unfold," said Moore in a press release circulated by the ASP.
With her win, Moore moves into a tie in the race for the women's ASP world title with Stephanie Gilmore; Wright sits in third with South African upstart Bianca Buitendag. The next event is the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, which will run from April 16–27 and was taken last year by—you guessed it—Carissa Moore.
