WHAT: The Ronnie Burns Memorial Junior Pro presented by Billabong Boost Mobile at Kewalo Basin, South Shore, Oahu Hawaii, the only event that Billabong Boost Mobile will sponsor on the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) Hawaii 2003 Junior World Tour. This circuit determines the annual Billabong Junior World Champion on the WCT (World Championship Tour). A top 6 placing on the event will gain contestants an invitation to the Billabong Junior World Championships 2003.
WHEN: The contest is on Thursday May 22, 2003.
WHERE: Kewalo Basin, South Shore, Oahu Hawaii.
WHO: 2002 event winner Joel Centeio, 2001 event winner Sean Moody, 2003 Billabong Junior Pro Sebastian Inlet event winner Eric Taylor, 2002 runner up Dustin Cuizon, 2001 runner up Kekoa Bacalso, plus Jamie O’Brien, Daniel Jones, TJ Barron, Tonino Benson, Ian Walsh, Jordy Brough, Tom Dosland, Mickey Mitchell, Kolea Fukumitsu, Wiki Villa, Nate Carroll and a host of other top Hawaiian junior pro surfers. In order for surfers to compete in this series, they cannot turn 21 during the 2003 tour year.
FORMAT: The competition is 48 man format, and will be run to standard ASP 2003 Junior Series event rules.
JUDGING: Five ASP rated judges using the ASP live computer scoring system will judge according to the 2003 ASP judging criteria, with the ASP head judge officiating.
STATUS: This Grade 2 event is sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), the organization that controls professional surfing globally.
PRIZE-MONEY: The juniors receive a total of US $10,000 in prize money.
