The Switchfoot Bro-am, A benefit contest/concert, “More bro than pro.

The Switchfoot Bro-amA benefit contest/concert”More bro than pro.

Surfing and music have occupied most of our lives. These two activities have introduced us to our dreams, our friends, and most of our favorite places. The support that we’ve received from the music scene and the surfing community over the years has been simply amazing. So we’ve dreamed up a way to give back to the San Diego community that has given us so much.

The Switchfoot Bro-Am will be a highly publicized event, which will raise money and awareness for a worthy cause. Every penny of the proceeds will go towards Care House, an organization that serves the homeless kids in San Diego. During the day, these resilient kids who survive every year on next to nothing will be given a day at the beach: free shoes and clothes, surf lessons and boards, guitars and guitar lessons, and most of all: a chance to dream. Due to the unique nature of the contest, the Switchfoot Bro-Am will be highly entertaining, and the private concert/awards ceremony will be equally memorable. More than anything, this is a way to give back to the kids who need it most.

When

Contest at Moonlight Beach on a Saturday, May 14, 2005 from 7:00AM to 3:00PM.
Private awards ceremony/concert at La Paloma theatre at 7:00PM. Only Bro-Am teams, Care House Kids, and radio winners will be invited.

What:

There will be16 teams of four surfers. Every contestant will be scored on two waves each heat: one ridden regular, one ridden goofy. The winning team and winning surfer will be announced at La Paloma later in the evening.

Benefits:

All the proceeds go directly to Care House, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving homeless teens, teens in crisis and young moms in crisis pregnancies throughout San Diego County.

Publicity:

The event will be pushed hard to local radio stations, (KROQ, 91X, 94.9, Star, 93.3, etc…) with an extensive grassroots marketing campaign. We will be working on getting the local press and national publications onboard (surfing, surfer, transworld, MTV, rolling stone, etc…)

Cost:

$500 donation to Care House to enter a four person team.
This donation includes:-
Entry fee for four contestants-
Billing on 5000 flyers-
12 tickets to the exclusive awards program including a performance by Switchfoot and other guests. (Winning tickets from a radio station will be the only other way to get into this exclusive show)

Bonus round:

The biggest thing that we can do for these kids is to show them that they are important and needed and loved. This is something that money alone cannot buy. So we have set up several relaxed ways to get to know these amazing people and give them an amazing day. For many of us, this will be the most rewarding part of the day.•
Teach a kid how to surf, (INT will be donating new foam boards)•
Teaching guitar lessons, (Taylor will be donating new guitars)•
