The Volcom VQS Series

On Saturday June 2, the Starfish Surf Series began in San Clemente on the North side of the pier. The waves were 1-2 feet with good cleanconditions all day. We were lucky to have any surf considering that the previous 4 days were dead flat.
Highlights include the brother team of Max and Jason McIlwee who took 1st and 3rd place in the Grom final. Max won every heat to get to thefinal and edged out his brother and Bert farley for the win. Max also made the Junior’s final. The competitor of the day award went to 17-year oldBrett Simpson of Huntington Beach. Brett convincingly won the Junior’s division and finished 2nd in the Men’s behind the 2001 VQS* Champion ZachKeenan.
All results of the day are listed below the photo attachments. Be sure not to miss the next Starfish July 18th at Goldenwest St. in HuntingtonBeach. Each event offers crucial points that count towards the final ratings. Only the top 5 from each division will qualify for the 2002 VQS*Championships!!!
