May 28, 2008: San Clemente, CA: Versasurf, inventors of the waxless traction process, has made Travis Mellem a new addition to their professional surf team. Travis will bring an essential and radical surf element to the Versasurf family, which includes 2000 World Champion and Six Time Triple Crown Winner, Sunny Garcia, and ASP Longboard Phenomenon, Joe Aaron, and will be a key asset in reaching the younger surf generation.
Born and raised in San Clemente, Travis began surfing at the age of 8 and by the age of 13 started competing in local and national events. Before the age of 17, Travis was able to obtain many titles, some of which being a five time NSSA conference champion as well as an NSSA open national champion.
Travis has over a 100 amateur wins and over 300 pages of editorial in Surfer, Surfing and Transworld SURF magazines, one of which he made the cover.
Travis is steadfast on his goal of earning his position on the WCT by the 2009 or 2010 seasons and hopes to one day to be world champ. He will be finishing out this year on the QS with hopes of earning a solid seed for next year to make a run for the WCT.
Expect to see Travis in the upcoming advertisements and editorials following him on his comeback.
Versasurf will be there to help Travis with providing him the highest quality of traction so that he can push his surf to that next level and support him on his way to the top. “Versasurf is an amazing product and from the first time I tried it I knew that I had stumbled upon something great,” says Travis Mellem.
