The Rip Curl Pro WCT event at Pipe is on hold today due to solid 15 foot swell lingering from yesterday. Pipe doesn’t hold well when the waves get bigger than 12 feet, so the Association of Surfing Professionals used the day to repair the judges scaffolding, which was ripped down by the storm surges yesterday and last night.
If the surf calms down a bit, they could run through the quarterfinals tomorrow. Time will tell. Bruce Irons, who won the Eddie yesterday (and $55,000 … yeah Bruce), need to make it to at least the quarters at Pipe to keep his seat on the World Tour. If he loses one more heat before that, it’s WQS obscurity again. Good luck to him. The ‘CT needs Brucey.
