In this week's Skid we check in on all the highlights from the Billabong Pro in Mundaka where CJ Hobgood defeated Joel Parkinson to take out the event ... although the man of the hour was newly crowned world champ Kelly Slater who claimed his 9th world title by making it through to the 4th round of the event ... there's also some heavy West Oz surf and carnage courtesy of Beerfridge thrown in the mix just for good measure. "Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
