Volcom Stone’s Greatwhite Surf Series held the second event of the season at The Lane in Santa Cruz on November 10th, 2001. The surf was a solid 3-4ft with some larger sets coming through at middle peak.
The Lane saw it’s far share of condition changes througout the day, with weather ranging from sunny and warm to a freezing cold front that blew it’s way through toward the end of the event. All the westside boys were uneffected, they kept the BBQ going and the contest rolled on. The hippies and the useual wierdo’s were the only ones being chased out by Flea and the weather.
Santa Cruz is one area that never lacks talent and the Pro-am division saw some hard fought rounds go down early in the day. The rain and wind mixed up the surf for the Pro-Am final and only a few were able to find something to work with. In closely fought battle it was Tyler’Hog’ Smith barely edging out Rat-Boy for the $400 win.
In the Juniors division it was Peter Garaway taking the win and collecting a snowboard and a huge bag of prizes for his efforts. Westside boy Nick Lamb controlled the Grom division which left TJ Mikus in second and the both tied for first in the ratings. A girls division was added to the event and action girl Jamila slid past Siri Cote for the win.
