The second event of the Greatwhite Surf Series was held at The Lane in Santa Cruz on Jan 11th, 2002. The event was held under grey skies but The surf was pumping all day. Over 86 competitors showed up to battle out for cash andprizes and the coveted west side bragging rights.
In the Grom division the title was wide open since little Nick Lamb was sent away to milatary school for no apparent reason. Battling it out were Troy Shaw, Jake Davi, Walter Deyerle, and Kyle Buthman. Troy Shaw walked away with the win and a ton of prizes.
In the Juniors division it was Neal Kearney looking solid all day and taking the win. Calder Deyerle, Smiley, and Jesse Ferris followed in that order. Neal walked away with a brand new Rossignol snowboard and bag of prizes.
At The Lane things go down a little different and the ever dominate Pro-Am division was in effect. In the final it was Tyler Smith, Joey Hutson, Marco Foreman, and Russ Smith, battling it out for $400 in cash and a slough of prizes. In the end the table would turn and Russ Smith would get the win, just barely edging out Marco Foreman by a half of point. Joey Hutson looked strong but couldnt come up with what he needed. Tyler Smith had some good ones but fell apart early and atempted to recover but also came up short.
