The Second Event of the Butterfish Surf Series went down Saturday Nov. 6th at Mandalay, Oxnard in good 3-5ft surf. With valuable VQS points at stake, over 110 competitors showed up stoked and ready to compete. There was epic surfing going on in the water and crazy egg lobbing wars going on the beach, you couldn’t ask for a better day.
The Grom final from start to finish was all about Robert Curtis and Dillion Perillo. They threw down some mean exchanges throughout the whole heat, but in the end it would be Dillon posting an 8.0 in the closing minutes to seal the deal. Dillon took home a Sector 9 skate deck, a backpack full of promo and a custom trophy. Rounding out the final was Robert Curtis, Sam McGee, Dustin Willman, Eli Cole, and Daniel Craft.
In the Juniors final, some explosive surfing went down with Spencer Regan throwing some mean front side snaps, Cory Arrambide with big fin free slides, and Matt McCabe throwing up some airs. In the end it would be Cory taking the win and bag full of gear, with Spencer in a close Second. Matt Johnson, Matt McCabe, Shane Savala, and Max Baumann rounded out the final.
The Girls final saw some new divas showing up to rage. Right from the beginning Sage Erickson posted some solid scores and never looked back. She took the win, with Bo Stanley in a respected second. Rounding out the final was Chelsea Curtis, Rachel Harris, Jordan Goldberg, and Chandler Parr.
The Pro-Am final started out with a long 10-minute lull in the waves and finally with 10 minutes to go, Mother Nature turned on and the Pro-am finalist battled it out. It was a toss up between Danny Estez, Bummy Keopenick, and Jeremy Ryan going into the final minutes. With a long lined up left-hander, right before the horn, Jeremy Ryan took the victory, winning $400 cash, a Santa Cruz skate deck, and bag full gear. Bummy Keopenick finished in a close second with Danny Estez, Blake Howard, Marcelo Aravgo, and Aaron Ernest rounding out the final.
