Volcom Stone’s Sea Slug #2, Zuma Beach, October 9, 2004.

Barrels! The second stop of the Sea Slug Surf Series went down at Zuma Beach on October 9th in 3-5ft peaky hollow waves. Over a 120 competitors showed up to show off their tube riding skills for huge prizes, cash and bragging rights.

In the Girls Final, Chandler Parr posted some solid scores, but couldn’t back up her win from the first event, and finished in a solid third place. It would be a hard fought battle between Amy Covert and Lidiane Amorim, they each threw down some solid scores, but in the end Amy Covert would take the win with Ladiane in a respectable second place. Amy walked away with a Santa Cruz Skatedeck and a backpack full of goods.

Jordan Weal and Sam McGee looked to be the front runners for the Grom Division. Each dominated the competition, but it would be Cheyne Gusmeroli who would step in and show them how its done. Cheyne posted two high scoring waves that earned him the win, a custom trophy, bag of gear and a Sector 9 Skatedeck.

The Juniors Final was a close battle between Mike Louson, Rob Swenson, and Matt Johnson. Each slashed their way threw the sloopy afternoon conditions to post solid scores, but it came down to Rob’s last high scoring wave of the final that put the icing on the cake. Rob took the win and walked away with a Bodyglove Wetsuit and a ton of prizes.

Local knowledge prevailed over the top rated Sea Slug competitors. Jeff Barnett and Josh Hoyer fought hard, but could not make ends meet in the difficult afternoon conditions. It would be Anthony Petruso and Yves Bright who threw down some mean exchanges threw out the final. In the closing seconds of the final, Anthony caught the wave of the day and racked up more power turns in one wave than the all the finalist in the heat.Taking the win, Anthony took home $400 cash and bag full of gear.

Thanks to all the competitors and parents who came down to the event and for RedBull catering lunch with 25 pizza from Point Pizza.
