Welcome to Crustieval Times – All lords and fair maidens make your way to the fighting pits! This year we stepped back in time to watch some of the finest nobleman and maidens from across the land do battle till the death in one of the biggest events of all time with over $75,000 dollars in cash being given away to tournament finalists along with tons of prizes.
This year did not disappoint, as the waves were contestable with light winds throughout day one and day two of the battle. On the morning of day three the surf was firing with 4-6ft barrels to be found up and down the beach. Newport only gets like this a few times a year!
It was the Maidens who started the battle in the first final. The wind came up a bit but not before everyone got there fair share of good waves. Local maiden Erica Hosseini and Hawaii,s Leilani Gryde went into this battle as the favorites. The turns of the tide were not to be in their favor, as dark horse Darlene Conolly from Encinitas would become victorious and walk away with $5,000 grand! Erica Hosseini finished in second place followed by Leilani Gryde, and Dianne Mattison.
The Little Knights had to battle large surf on their way to the finals. The battle would be intense in this division with every score very close and $6,000 dollars in cash for the victor! Nat Young a favorite from Santa Cruz did his best to hold it down but a late charge from Florida,s Oliver Kurtz who would take home the Victory and $6,000 dollars! Oliver also won a Kawasaki 110 in the raffle of victors. Nat Young, Taylor Brothers, and Dane Zaun completed the final.
The Air Joust is exactly what it sounds like a joust for $6,000 dollars! The early rounds were tough and a few experienced knights fell victim. Noblemen like Christian and Nathan Fletcher just to name a few. In the end of this battle royal it would be young squire Blake Jones, Aaron Cormican, Gavin Beschen, Josh Hoyer, Alex Grey jousting it out with Australia,s Josh Kerr winning the battle to become $6,000 dollars richer. He was also knighted for his efforts.
The Junior Knights are Knights in training, I guess Squires of some sort. The Lord Majesty is generous and is willing to grant wealth to his entire kingdom. In the amount of $8,000 to whoever is victorious. Josh Redman, Matt Gallagher, Dusty Payne, and Matt Meola would all challenge for the riches. In the end it was Hawaii,s Dusty Payne walking away $8,000 dollars richer.
This is the Battle Royal, The Main Event, what ever you want to call it. The Pro-Am Knights! Just a quest for $12,000! The beach was quiet as these four went to battle. The true Battle came down between Asher Nolan and Killian Garland after Alex Grey received interference for dropping in on a fellow Knight. Asher worked the waves over to finish second as Killian Garland launched a front side three-sixty air along with a good third scoring wave to become victorious and $12,000 dollars richer!
Along with all the cash prizes several prizes were given out to the victors as well spectators.
