TransWorld SURF: What was the highlight of the making of your Strange Brains episode?

Parker Coffin: For me, I think the highlight was to just have something that was in my control. Volcom really came to the athletes and gave us all the freedom in the world to make our Strange Brains videos however we wanted. Ryan Perry and I pitched some ideas back and forth until he got really excited to start working on it. To work with him when he is excited is one of my favorite things in the world. We had a really fun time creating my part and I hope that people enjoy it.

What really goes on inside the brain of a 17-year old? Isn’t there just a bunch of mushy gray matter in there?

Haha! Well I can’t speak for most teenagers, but my brain is pretty much centralized around surfing, girls, food, and having a good time. The focus and inspiration for my part was what actually goes on in my brain.

Who’s episode of Strange Brains was your favorite so far and why?

I really liked various parts of everybody’s. I enjoyed how Alex’s part told an important part of his life, Droid’s was created in classic Droid form, Zeke’s surfing was absolutely amazing and I liked how he used a rap song, and then Ozzie’s part just captured the fun of surfing.

What’s the strangest thing that’s happened to you so far this year?

I went to Morocco and the airline told me they didn’t know where my luggage was in the world. With all the computer tracking technology for bags they didn’t know what continent my suitcases were in. That was really frustrating.

If there was something you could change or add to your video what would it be?

I really wish we could have surfed some more open-faced lefts. The one thing that I think my video part lacks is some good frontside turns and combo clips. I would have loved to surf a J-Bay type left and do a lot of turns on one wave.

What’s next for you?

Volcom is making a big movie this next year and I really want to have a solid presence in that. Volcom movies have always been my favorite so I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be apart of their new creation. Also, youngwisetails has some fun movie plans in the works too, but that shit is top secret!
