Volcom Surf Team News

It’s been another busy month for the Volcom surf team with photo trips, contests and shooting for the upcoming film, The Bruce Movie. Here’s a quick update on what’s been going on the Volcom surf crew, click on the links in yellow to see the whole story.

Volcom Stone’s Totally Crustaceous Tour is just about to wrap up with the final events being held in Ventura, Oahu, Kauai, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and Florida in the next week or so. All those who qualify will be invited to the VQS Championships, being held May 13-15th at 54th street in Newport Beach, California. Remember, this is an invite only championship event with a $50,000 purse and tons of other great prizes! Make sure you check out the action this May and see who will become the new 2004/2005 Crusty Champs!

Bruce Irons is featured on the newest cover of Transworld Surf, along with a 12-page article inside the mag. Bruce just returned from a boat trip to Fiji with Red Bull and Surfer Magazine, afterward he flew home to Kauai for the Irons Brothers Pine Trees Classic. Currently, Bruce is in Australia preparing for the first two WCT events of the year at Snapper and Bells. While in Oz, Bruce was awarded the 2004 ASP Rookie of the Year at the annual ASP awards banquet on the Gold Coast.

Ozzie Wright just returned from a trip to the Caribbean with Transworld Surf and is Currently on the Gold Coast filming and shooting photos and rocking Volcom’s newest wetsuits. Ozzie is also heading over to New Zealand this month for one of the last Crusty Events and will be playing a few sold out shows with the Aussie rockers, Goons of Doom.Gavin Beschen is finishing up construction on his new house at Sunset Beach and will be headed over to Australia for the WQS events and photo shoots.

Dean Morrison just spent a few weeks over in Hawaii shooting photos and filming for The Bruce Movie. Currently Dean is at home in Coolangatta, Australia for the first WCT of the year and will be traveling around the world with Bruce on the rest of the ‘CT. Dean can also been seen sporting the new Volcom wetsuits this year, make sure you check them out!

Shawn “Barney” Barron has been spotted surfing around Santa Cruz after chilling at home for months recuperating from a broken leg. Since Barney’s been out of the water, he’s had plenty of time of make some very interesting art pieces that are about to be unveiled to the world. Keep your eyes peeled.

Tyler Smith just got 3rd in the Mavericks event held yesterday in 25-foot cold-water bombs. Stay tuned for a Tyler Smith/Mavericks happening coming soon.

Nate Tyler just returned from a photo shoot in the Philippines and is gearing up to go to Puerto Rico with Mike Morrissey, Kilian Garland, and Kyle Garson for a photo trip.

Andrew Doheny set out for his first trip to Australia. He’s up on the Gold Coast surfing perfect waves and watching Bruce and Dean go big in the first WCT at Snapper Rocks.

Volcom just signed 16-year-old Nic Lamb from Westside Santa Cruz. This kid is charging at a young age, already getting plenty of Mavericks sessions under his belt this year. He boosts at the Lane on a regular basis and is sure to do big things.

16-year-old Dusty Payne surfed his first Pipeline event two weeks ago. He made two rounds and took out Pipe veterans like Derek Ho, Reef McIntosh, and Strider Wasilewski. Dusty is also leading the NSSA Open Mens division is Hawaii. Dusty’s NUTS!

Dustin Cuizon, Alex Gray, Stephen Koehne, Tom Dosland, and Raymond Reichle are heading over to West OZ to meet up with Gavin Beschen for perfect waves and the 6* WQS Margaret River event.
