November 9, 2004 (Imbituba, Santa Catarina, Brazil) Hawaiian Andy Irons took home his third consecutive world title following the shock elimination of fellow team surfer Joel Parkinson (AUS) in round three of the Nova Schin Festival 2004.
Andy, 26, started the year off right having won the WCT event in South Africa and more recently in France, along with two runner-ups. His consistency paid off today when he made history as only the third male surfer to ever win three consecutive ASP world titles joining four-time winner Mark Richards (AUS) and six-time champion Kelly Slater (FL, USA).
Australian Taj Burrow was virtually unstoppable in the finals today, sealing the deal with a stiff uppercut to the competition and taking the victory. The result lifts Taj into fifth place going into the final WCT event at Pipeline.
“Andy showed the world what a champ is made of; persistence, dedication, and an inhuman drive to be the best, said VonZipper Marketing Manager, Jason Arnold. “The VZ family is so stoked and proud to have the best surfers in the world, Andy, Taj, and Parko representing!
