Canadian Know?Show Expands Footprint In New Vancouver Location

Know?Show held its summer trade show August 11-13 this year, moving locations from Calgary to the Vancouver Convention Center and upping the show’s attendance by fifteen percent, which included more U.S. head office attendance from brands and retailers and increased traffic from Canada’s east coast,  according to show Co-founder Perry Pugh.

The number of brands at the show jumped 8% compared to last summer, with more than 250 exhibitors and 1,000 retailers on the show floor. The show also saw a record number of streetwear and apparel lines added to the roster for the Vancouver location— a category that Know?Show will continue to target for increased growth.

“Due to space availability, the August show was held in the biggest footprint to date going from 50,000 square feet to 69,000 square feet, ” says Know?Show Operations and Marketing Director Nick Brown. “Although the show did not sell out of space for the first time in two summers, the increased floor space allowed us to add more exhibitors to the show and feature an open themed lounge where our show magazine KNOW?MAG presented a retrospective art show featuring prints of work from past issues.”

Prints were sold at $100 each and one hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated by Know?Show to the Canadian Cancer Society in honor of lost friend Nathan Mathews. This summer they also incorporated two new events, The Know?Show Soccer Tournament sponsored by Red Bull and adidas, and a Hip Hop Karaoke contest hosted at Fortune Sound Club.

Know?Show staff agrees that a major part of the show’s success centered around increased awareness for this show and hopes to make a big push for the future with its newly implemented marketing tools, such as the Know?Show newsletter and daily blog updates.  Retailers also had positive feedback about the show, reporting that the combination of a laid back atmosphere and key brands made it a success.

“The show is getting better and better every time I attend,” says Montreal, Quebec’s Off The Hook Co-owner and Buyer Angelo Destounis. ” It was a relief this year I must admit, since my shop is very busy especially in this back to school period. KNOW?SHOW is at the right time, where I don’t miss out on my momentum back home, and get to crunch in some serious bookings, and solidify my business relationships with my suppliers all in the span of three fun days.”

The next Know?Show will be held January 19-21, 2011,  in Vancouver.
