Jack’s Teams With Vans To Open Second Huntington Beach Retail Store & Skatepark

Jack’s Surfboards has teamed up with Vans to open a second Huntington Beach, California retail location, which will include a skatepark with a 15,000-square-foot bowl and 12,000-square-foot street course. The project, which has been in the works for more than a year, got its start when the Huntington Beach High School skatepark was torn down in order to make space for a remodeled football field, says Jack’s Creative Director Roland Enriquez

“The city of Huntington Beach needed to replace that skatepark so they asked us if we would possibly be interested in building one,” says Enriquez. “So many cities now have large new public skateparks so we thought this was a great opportunity to build one in Huntington Beach.”

The new location will be on the Edinger Corridor between Center Avenue and McFadden Avenue, east of Gothard Street. We found out a few more details from Enriquez, but stay tuned for more information in our Winter 2012 issue in January.

How big will the new facility be in total square feet, and how much will be dedicated to retail space vs. skatepark?

The skatepark will be 3 acres total. There will be a 15,000 sq ft bowl and a 12,000 sq ft street course. The skate shop will be 3,000 sq ft.

When is it scheduled to complete construction?

Construction should be completed by Spring 2013.

What date are you looking to have the grand opening?

We don’t have a date set in stone. A grand opening hinges on the completion date.

Why did Jacks and Vans decide to team up on this project at this time? Why did you see a need for this sort of retail space in Huntington?

We’ve worked with Vans in the past on projects and with their long history in skateboarding they are entrenched in the culture. They are also no stranger to building skateparks.

Why did you decide to work with California Skateparks on this project?

Vans has worked with California Skateparks in the past so we relied on their knowledge. We had no previous experience as a company building a skatepark.

What products and brands will you carry in the retail space? Will it be Vans heavy since they are a partner in the store/skatepark?

It will be just like our other skate shops and carry pretty much all the same brands and products. I wouldn’t say it is going to be Vans heavy but they will definitely have a very good presence in the shop.

How will this retail space differ from your original store in HB?

It will be totally different than our flagship store in Huntington Beach. It will be a labeled Garage and not Jack’s Surfboards so it will be a skate shop. We currently have 2 Garage Skateshops (Huntington Beach & Dana Point) so the store at the skatepark will be the 3rd. The logos on the skatepark signs will be Vans and Jack’s Surfboards though. Only the retail store will have the Garage logo.
