The Round Table, Ep. 4: Preparing for the rainy days in business

State of Skate’s Round Table, Episode 4

Business Talk | How do you prepare for the rainy days?

It was Charles Darwin who explained the importance of preparing for rainy days in the most simple of ways: “It is not the strongest of the species that survive, not the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”

Often times in business, you experience a bell curve of epic proportions, riding that initial high, only to run into problems when the growth plateaus, or environmental issues like the economy force change. But the solution to surviving is, theoretically, very simple: be adaptable, nimble, and in the words of Darwin, “responsive to change.” Usually, this means stashing away money when times are good, dipping into this extra capital when the rain comes.

Mike Fitzgerald, Don Brown, Jeff Kendall, and Per Welinder candidly discuss the wins, the losses, and what they’ve learned throughout the years in business.

Chime into the conversation below. The Round Table is an 11-part series focused on The State of Skate. Transworld SKATEboarding’s Mike Fitzgerald moderated the conversation with Don Brown, Sr. VP of Marketing for Sole Technology, Jeff Kendall, Vice President of NHS, Inc., and Per Welinder, President and CEO of Blitz Distribution.
