After four days of talking about snowboarding in the Colorado Convention Center for SIA, the industry headed to Winter Park on Monday and Tuesday to walk the talk, shred the new hotness, and network at the best possible location—on the hill.
Blue skies and warm temperatures greeted the 2,800-plus retailers, reps, manufacturers and media that made the trip up to cap their 2013 SIA right, and they were treated to a hands on look at the products they’d seen at the show, as well as numerous events, parties, contests, and more at the annual SIA On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest.
”We have a lot of fun on the showroom floor, but when we’ve got a new technology, the on-snow demos are where the real excitement is,” explains Quiksilver Wintersports SVP & GM Clark Gundlach. “For me, it’s more about spending time with the people who buy and sell our products, getting on the chairlift with them, and having fun doing what we do.”
Retailers were out in force lapping the groomers, ducking into the trees, and taking advantage of the snow that smacked into the Rockies last week. For just $10, attendees got two lift tickets, transportation to and from Denver, breakfasts and lunches, Après on Monday, and a hosted party on Monday night at the top of the mountain.
All in all, it was an amazing way end to this year’s Snow Show, with the best conditions Winter Park has seen since SIA began hosting the On Snow demo at the mountain with the show’s move to Denver in 2010.
