SIMA 2014 Waterman’s Classic Golf Tournament
The sun was out and the mood was light at SIMA‘s 14th annual Waterman’s Classic Golf Tournament Friday, August 8 at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, California. SIMA rallied an impressive group of about 150 industry luminaries, including Quiksilver’s Bob McKnight, WMG’s Steve Astephen, Vans’ Doug Palladini, Jordy Smith, Dusty Payne, Luke Walsh, as well as Rusty Preisendorfer and Tom Carroll, who were honored at SIMA Waterman’s Ball awards presentation Saturday evening.
With breakfast provided by Dana Point’s Shwack Beach Grill, and a Wahoo’s lunch truck parked at the first hole, golfers made the entire day of it at the course, from a 7 a.m. set up to wrapping up with a 5:30 p.m. awards ceremony, at which Team Tilly’s was honored with first place. This year's tournament was a scramble format and featured “on-course entertainment” and contests, such as a hole-in-one contest for a new Audi. Part of the annual Waterman’s Weekend, the golf tournament is one of the main facets of SIMA’s fundraising initiatives, helping the organization give back to 19 ocean environmental groups in an effort to further preserve and protect surf breaks.
