The State Of Surf | How Often do you Surf?

As part of our in-depth look into the market for the first-ever State Of Surf report, we surveyed both Surfer and Surfing readers. We asked both titles' digital audiences to weigh in on what they've recently purchased, where they most frequently shop, and what brands they are most likely to own in the near future when it comes to surfboards, boardshorts, wetsuits, and other gear essential to the core surfer.

One staggering fact we came across when looking at the actual breakdown of who this surfer really is, came in the form of how often the average respondent surfs. Take a look for yourself:

The State of Surf 2015

A little more than 5% of those we talked to surfed at least once a day, and a whopping 60% surf at least once per week, which makes sense considering a large amount—a little more than 50%—live five miles or less from their nearest break. A deeper look into consumer purchasing habits revealed that only 19% of those we surveyed had bought their surfboard online, with about 40% indicating they bought their last board at their local shop.
