Airwalk Launches Fourth Annual ‘Unsigned Hero’

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE – (ENGLEWOOD, CO) April 30, 2009 – On May 1, 2009, global youth lifestyle brand Airwalk®, will launch the highly popular viral music contest – Airwalk Unsigned Hero – Road to Austin via Airwalk.com, Airwalk.com/ush, MySpace and Facebook.  The Airwalk Unsigned Hero contest will give one unsigned band the once-in-a-lifetime chance to play SPIN & MusicGorilla.com showcases during the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas in March 2010.  Airwalk's Unsigned Hero has attracted global attention with hundreds of bands submitting their demos for consideration in past years.

"Our Airwalk Unsigned Hero contest is an innovative way to support new music and give a once in a lifetime opportunity to the artists. The level of talent each year has blown us away and we're excited to find out who will win this year," explains Vice President of Brand Management at Collective International, Eric Dreyer.

Bands may submit tracks and videos via www.airwalk.com/ush for consideration. This year, Airwalk has made voting for your favorite band especially easy with a new online module that is downloadable to all social media sites where fans can nominate bands and bands can promote themselves.

On May 1, the first phase of the contest, the nomination phase, begins and independent music lovers will have the opportunity to nominate their favorite up-and-coming bands. After two months of nominations, ten bands will be selected and will advance into the Unsigned Hero's Voting Phase. This phase, which lasts from August 1st until September 30th, is when consumers from all over the world can cast a vote for their favorite band. On October 15th the votes will be tallied and the winner announced.

Along with an all-expense paid trip to play during the South by Southwest music festival, the winning band will also be awarded $5,000 in spending cash as well as an Airwalk gear package. First place isn't the only chance to score some cash however, as second and third placed bands will also receive cash prizes and Airwalk packages. Fans can win big, too.  Throughout each phase of the contest, consumers will have the chance to win an Airwalk engraved iPod Nano just for nominating or voting for their favorite band.

Winners of Airwalk's 2008/09 Unsigned Hero contest were The Monthlies, a band out of Los Angeles, CA, who recently dropped their first album, Monthlies Assemble! Check them out at www.themonthlies.com.
