Bear Mountain, Snow Summit To Open As Early As Next Week

(Big Bear Lake, CA – November 9, 2012) – With recent cold weather, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are expecting to fire up the snowmaking guns this weekend and kick off the 2012-2013 winter season as early as next week. Big Bear Mountain Resorts is the leader in snowmaking technology with some of the best snowmaking crews in the country, producing quality snow conditions throughout the cold months. Thanks to their state-of-the-art technology, it looks like we’ll all be riding the white stuff soon.

“In sunny Southern California, we rely on our extensive snowmaking systems to provide quality snow for hundreds of thousands of skiers and snowboarders each season,” says Chris Riddle, Vice President of Marketing for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. “We make snow whenever we can from mid to late November into March, even if it’s a good year for natural snow, to ensure the best possible conditions all season long.”

Big Bear Mountain Resorts, which includes Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, covers 100 percent of their ski and snowboard runs each season with an average of three to five feet of man-made snow. Several hundred million gallons of water supplied by Big Bear Lake are converted into snow each season, reaching rates at times of up to 6,000 gallons per minute at each resort for several days and nights ‘round the clock.
