“Amplify” art exhibition + silent auction Thursday, October 6th, 2016 @ 7pm hosted by downtown Los Angeles Arts District and Becore
(Los Angeles, CA) –– Boarding for Breast Cancer has today announced “Amplify,” a 1-night fundraiser celebrating two decades of Breast Cancer prevention and support programs for young people. The event will take place Thursday, October 6th, at 7 p.m., at the BeCore headquarters in the downtown Los Angeles Arts District.
Curated by NEMO Design, Amplify will include a silent-auction featuring a Fender Stratacoustic guitar signed by Green Day, original artwork by Caia Koopman, Ernesto Yerena, Jamie Lynn, ManOne, Marcel “Sel” Blanco, RISK and others, as well as food trucks, live music and skateboarding. A suggested $10-dollar donation for the B4BC 501(c)3 non-profit, with the opportunity to become an official member by joining the B4BC Brigade for $20, will be requested at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Boarding for Breast Cancer organization.
“We continue to seek interactive and creative ways to spread our message and with this event we’re thrilled to kick-off our B4BC Brigade membership drive, opening new doors and sparking passion with fun ways to fundraise, educate, and celebrate,” says Boarding for Breast Cancer Co-Founder and Executive Director, Kathleen Gasperini. “What a better way to celebrate our 20th Anniversary and Breast Cancer Awareness month than with an evening of creatives, athletes and musicians whose lives have been touched by Breast Cancer.”

• Over $600,000 in funds raised through B4BC’s Snowboard + Music Festivals. Beneficiaries have included The Breast Cancer Fund, The Susan G. Komen Foundation, The Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research and a variety of regional breast cancer support organizations.
• Provided over 60 grants, from 2009 – present, to breast cancer patients and survivors to attend Chasing Sunshine Project wellness retreats.
• $25,000 for 27 climbers of the Breast Cancer Fund’s 2012 Climb Against the Odds, providing The North Face outerwear for their Mt. Shasta ascent.
• Annual grants to local communities through B4BC’s signature Shred the Love™ and Skate the States board-a-thons and fundraising campaigns. Beneficiaries have included Camp Good Days, The HERA Foundation, The Munson Medical Center, Tahoe Forest Health System, New Mexico’s Anita Salas Memorial Fund, The Cancer Support Community, Mammoth Hospital and many others.
The inspiration for B4BC was a young woman named Monica Steward, who started her battle with breast cancer at the age of 26 and passed two years later of complications that arose from delayed diagnosis. B4BC’s founders – Lisa Hudson, Kathleen Gasperini, Dawn Kish, and pro-snowboarders Tina Basich and Shannon Dunn – hoped to honor their friend Moni by creating an event that centered around their passions of snowboarding and music while communicating the urgent importance of awareness and education.
In 1996, the first ever B4BC Snowboard + Music Festival was born with tremendous support from the action sports industry. Sadly, Monica passed away right before the event but her spirit shined on that day in a celebration of life and love. The Festival continued for 6 years in Sierra-at-Tahoe drawing internationally-acclaimed acts over its run, including the Beastie Boys, Blink 182, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Moby, Less than Jake, Luscious Jackson, Ozomatli, Supersuckers, Primus, Spearhead, and more. This inaugural event raised over $500,000 for beneficiaries that included the Breast Cancer Fund, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research, and a variety of regional breast cancer support organizations.
