FCS SIGNS SAN CLEMENTE STANDOUT IAN CRANE
FCS is pleased to announce the addition of San Clemente standout Ian Crane to the team. We sat down with Ian to see what he had to say about landing a spot on the team, competing against friends and what separates him from the rest of the local talent.
What are your thoughts on being part of the FCS team?
I’m excited to be a part of the FCS team. There are so many sick riders and I’m stoked to be part of this crew of guys. I feel like they have by far the best fin system in the world with the new FCSII and the best range of fins for every condition. I can't wait to get my fins dialed in and feel my surfing get better!
What's your favorite fin?
My favorite fin is the Mayhem or the Carver
What are your plans for this year and the future?
My plans for this year are to get on some trips to some good waves to get better at surfing. I still plan on doing some WQS events to try and get my seed up and hopefully be able to get into Prime events for next year
What separates you from the rest of the young talent coming out of San Clemente?
I think what separates me from the rest of the young talent coming out of San Clemente is that I’m goofy foot, so I approach a wave differently than my friends. We all grew up surfing together every day in the same waves; however I feel like we all have different and unique styles of surfing those waves
Where's one spot or contest that you have yet to surf at that you want to accomplish for 2014?
I really want to surf in the Prime event at Lowers, it's my home spot and I haven't been able to get into it yet. Hopefully this year I can make it through the trials or maybe get a wildcard into the event.
What's going through your mind when you draw one of your best friends or idols in a heat?
When I draw one of my best friends in a heat I don't get nervous because it's normal to be in the water with them and I want to beat them really badly. If I draw an idol I’ll tend to get nervous before I paddle out and on my first wave of the heat, but after that the nerves go away.
When you're not surfing what are you up to?
I usually just hang out with friends; talking about surfing & girls, basically running around doing random fun things.
Who are your other sponsors?
O'Neill, Filtrate, …Lost Surfboards, Blackline
Ian is managed by Brian Coe of Crow Surf Management who had this to say about the new relationship. "I’m super stoked to get Ian signed to a company like FCS. Ian has a bright future ahead of him and with FCS supporting him the sky is the limit."
