Giro Launches New Combyn Helmet

Giro has taken advantage of new technologies in order to create a new helmet that can better withstand impacts of high and low speeds in all sorts of conditions. Giro calls this type of helmet “Soft Shell”, a helmet with both comfortable and flexible fit, and unmatched durability. The helmet will be available for US retail in August 2013.

Answering the demands of the next generation of skiers and snowboarders, Giro® has introduced the Combyn™ helmet. The Combyn™ is the first in a new category of snow helmets that Giro calls “Soft Shell” and provides riders with unique performance characteristics that emphasize durability and protection across a wide range of impact types.

The Combyn employs a patent pending, impact absorbing liner made with Vinyl Nitrile (VN) foam. The liner features two distinct layers of foam that allow the helmet to manage both high and low energy impacts across a wide range of temperatures. Unlike traditional expanded polystyrene (EPS) or expanded polypropylene (EPP) helmet liners, the VN material is soft and flexible. When matched with a proprietary shell material, originally developed for football and hockey helmets, the result is a helmet that delivers a comfortable and flexible fit with unmatched durability.
