Eyewear brand Kaenon will host the fourth annual SUP For A Pup event to benefit A Wish For Animals (AWFA) on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Approximately 25 dogs will be available for adoption on site through AWFA, a local non-profit rescue. Sup For A Pup will connect the paddle and dog-loving communities in an effort to raise money for dogs without homes. The event will offer adoption opportunities, sample sales, raffles and giveaways held by top lifestyles brands and standup paddles companies including Quickblade, Riviera Paddlesurf, OluKai, Hinano Tahiti, Surfline, VMG Sail Shades, Clean Bottle, as well as host company Kaenon. In previous years this event has been a success, with the 2011 event bringing in more than 500 members in the community to enjoy music, entertainment, good food and great deals.
"Over the past three years we've raised thousands of dollars and found homes for many dogs that were on the brink of being put down," said Chris Wyman, Sports Marketing Director at Kaenon and founder of the event. "All of this has been possible through the hard work of the crew here at Kaenon, all of the companies that come each year and of course AWFA. We're hoping this year we will be able to do even more than has been done in past years."
The family friendly event will also feature food available from Wahoo's Fish Taco as well as face and body painting for children, making for a perfect weekend outing with the opportunity to make a difference. A portion of all sales and food purchases will be donated to AWFA to support their animal-saving mission.
"The event is essential to our rescue," said Toni Eakes, founder of AWFA. "We are so grateful for Kaenon and all of the companies and individuals that come out to support us each year."
SUP For A Pup will be held on Saturday, May 19th from 10am-5pm at Kaenon, located at 864 W. 16th Street, Newport Beach, CA 92663. Admission is free. Words shared by Chris Wyman:
“Do all the good you can, for all the creatures you can, For as long as ever you can.”
This is a saying that a dear animal lover, Wyndi Kleppen would always say. She unfortunately passed away at a very young age. Her name lives on more than most of us know. Last year her mom Jan made a donation in the name of her daughter Wyndi, which was a huge help to the SUP for a Pup and “A Wish for Animals” cause. This helped build a new facility to house dogs that were on their way to be put down in the Southern California kill shelters.
As most of you know Lisa and I have foster cared or rescued dogs for quite some time now. Many of our good friends have been a huge help along the way. Below are the dogs that Lisa and I found homes for over the years. Although Lisa and I are not fostering like we were (due to a 1 year old and a 3 year old kids) we still support the program and run the SUP For a Pup event.
So please help or donate if you can. You can donate at supforapup.com or here at Kaenon. Just make checks payable to AWFA, it’s tax deductible. Also if you purchase Kaenon’s on line, enter this code: sup4apup25 and is valid today through May 31st for 25% off all regular priced sunglasses only – (not valid on sale items, apparel, accessories or optical). Limit one per customer. Kaenon will match the 25% and donate it to “A Wish for Animals.”
A bit about Wyndi;
When Wyndi was 7 years old she brought home her first rescued pet. It was a small kitten, dirty and covered with fleas.
She told us she found it tied to the railroad tracks close to our house. We were skeptical of her story but we kept the kitten and she lived a long and happy life. This was the beginning of a life dedicated to “All Creatures Great and Small”.
Wyndi worked with the Humane Society as a foster parent for hundreds of cats and dogs. As word spread of her devotion to animals, she would get several calls a week regarding an animal that needed help. She took in rabbits, turtles, birds, anything that needed rescuing.
When a small squirrel was found by a friend that had been injured, Wyndi took him in and nursed this little guy back to health. Feeding him every two hours for weeks. After he was well, she released him into her yard. All she had to do was walk outside and he would come running, many times jumping up on her for a snuggle.
Wyndi passed away at the age of 39. I am dedicated to continuing her love and devotion to animals. Jan (mother)
