Professional rally driver and DC Co-Founder Ken Block and his company Gravel Farms Racing LLC have filed a lawsuit against Mad Media, alleging that the company has been trying to unethically profit from Gymkhana despite having little to do with the concept. The lawsuit stems from the Mad Media owned website Gymkhana.com that features an array of content related to rally, drift and general car news, in addition to several links to Ken Block-related content.
Although the website does include a legal disclaimer that states “This gymkhana.com website does not originate from, is not affiliated, connected, or associated with, and is not sponsored or approved by Ken Block or DC Shoes,” Block and company allege that Mad Media has nonetheless profited off Gymkhana while having little to do with the concept other than recording Gymkhana footage, as Mad Media is the company that co-produced and directed the first three Gymkhana videos.
Specifically, the lawsuit says the following:
“By registering and using the domain name GYMKHANA.COM, Mad Media breached its contractual obligations to Plaintiffs to refrain from using the knowledge it gained from its contractual relationship with Plaintiffs to misappropriate, interfere with, or profit from opportunities and property in the GYMKHANA brand.”
