OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE -Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., Thursday, October 31, 2008 – A Barack Obama look-a-like joined a pirate, Gillian, a clown and more characters at the first event of the 2008-2009 season, the Aspen/Snowmass Jack-O-Lantern Jib, October 30, 2008.
Local rippers and Aspen/Snowmass Athletes competed in the athlete judged event with Torin Wallace taking home a pair of Salomon skis for the first place skier. This Halloween themed competition featured 50 skiers and snowboarders in the park, which consisted of several rail and box features.
A significant pile of snow from the record-breaking 07-08 season was preserved over the summer by a large snow sealing blanket made by the Swiss company Landlot. This remaining snow allowed Aspen Skiing Company to fire up the lifts earlier than ever before for the Jack-O-Lantern Jib.
With Snowmass and Aspen Mountain opening on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 27, ski and snowboard season is just around the corner. As temperatures drop and weather permits, the snow guns at Aspen/Snowmass are prepared to make snow this Saturday, November 1, 2008.
