Shark Bites Teen Surfing New Smyrna Inlet’s South Jetty

According to a staff report published on the Daytona Beach News Journal’s Web site:

The sixth shark attack of the year in Volusia County occurred this morning when a shark bit a 14-year-old New Smyrna Beach girl who was surfing near Ponce de Leon Inlet’s south jetty, Beach Patrol officials said.

The shark nipped the girl on the right foot between 8 and 9 a.m. and she suffered cuts and puncture wounds, said Capt. Scott Petersohn.

The teen, whose name was not released, was treated on the beach and her father took her to Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Petersohn said.
