The company will continue to operate while selling its operations to Sigg’s Canadian distributer.
In 2008, the company had to fend off customer concerns over the BPA chemicals found in some earlier models of its canteens. Sigg’s admission that the bottles included BPA sparked a series of class action lawsuits alleging that the company misrepresented its health safety claims and violated customer production laws.
The company now advertises that its bottles use BPA and phthalate-free ingredients.
According to its Chapter 11 petition, the company lost millions of dollars a year in 2009 and 2010 as sales dropped.
