The North Face Masters Announces 2012 Schedule

The 5th season of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding announced the 2012 schedule, kicking off in Snowbird, UT January 19-22.  "Snowbird is proud to host the first stop of this world-renowned competition," says Dave Fields, VP of Resort Operations at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort. "Given the impressive caliber of this year's athletes, and the prospect of another La Nina snow season, The North Face Masters promises to take big mountain snowboarding to a new level of competition."

The North Face Masters is the sport's largest big mountain competition in the world, gathering athletes from around the globe to compete in this three-part event totaling a prize purse of over $50,000.

Snowbird, UT—January 19-22

Crystal Mountain, WA—February 14-17

Kirkwood, CA—March 1- 4

The competition is unique as it gives riders the opportunity to embrace the natural terrain of big mountain lines, and implement a high degree of creativity in their riding.

Maria DeBari and the late Aaron Robinson were famous for slaying the competition, taking home the Katana sword in the 2011 event. Aaron's life was taken this past summer, so in commemoration for the athlete and friend, The North Face Masters will offer the A-Rob award in his memory. It will be awarded at the final stop of the 2012 tour.

In addition to the final, overall award, The North Face Masters will award riders under 21 years of age with the Young Gun Award. These riders are those who demonstrate true progression, innovation, and talent throughout each stop on the tour. A final, overall Young Gun award will also be presented at the end of the series.

Athlete registration will open on December 14, 2011 at 10am MST. The North Face Masters is open to all men and women age 18 and above. For more information, please visit www.thenorthfacemasters.com or www.facebook.com/thenorthfacemasters.
