Major retailer retains title sponsorship and continues to fuel Surfing America’s long-term vision to positively impact the sport on a global scale
San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – November 15, 2010 – Surfing America, the National Governing Body for surfing in the USA, announced today that Pacific Sunwear has renewed its Title Sponsorship of the USA Surf Team for three more years through the 2013 calendar year.
“Surfing America is extremely pleased, and deeply honored, to have PacSun’s continued support,” said Surfing America executive director Michael Gerard. “And the fact that they’ve renewed for three years speaks volumes to PacSun’s level of commitment. This development gives Surfing America an incredible platform on which to continue building its long-term vision and programs. We look forward to further expanding the horizon of opportunity for young athletes across the nation-thanks to PacSun.”
A leading retailer in youth lifestyle apparel, PacSun operates over 877 stores and supports surfing and other action sports at many levels. PacSun also backs up their financial support of the program with nationwide advertising campaigns featuring PacSun USA Surf Team athletes.
“PacSun takes deep pride in our 30 years of supporting the sport of surfing and our commitment to the PacSun USA Surf Team remains a top priority. The PacSun USA Surf Team flaunts some of the most elite athletes in the world, and we are pleased to be able to support their vision,” Gary Schoenfeld, CEO of PacSun.
PacSun’s sponsorship has provided financial support to the non-profit organization for the past four years. Along with a year-round development and training program for the PacSun USA Surf Team, Surfing America also produces nine Surfing America Prime events for the nation’s best under-18-year-old athletes, and hosts the annual Surfing America USA Championships in Huntington Beach and Lower Trestles, CA each year.
