Boarding For Breast Cancer Announces Dates, New P.R. Agency

Non-Profit, Youth-Focused Awareness and Fundraising Foundation Sets April 14, 2002 Date; SNL Communications Joins Team

LOS ANGELES, December 12, 2001 -The Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation (B4BC), a non-profit, youth-focused organization devoted to education, awareness and fundraising about breast cancer, has announced that its 7th Annual Snowboard + Music Festival will be held Sunday, April 14, 2002 at Sierra-At-Tahoe, CA. SNL Communications, a Los Angeles-based, full service public relations agency specializing in the action sports industry will handle all public relations efforts for the event. B4BC is also proud to announce that Burton Snowboards and SoBe Beverages will return as supporting sponsors of the 2002 event. Additional sponsors and event details will be announced shortly.

“We’ve educated thousands of young people about the importance of early detection and taking charge of one’s own health, but the more young people we can reach, the more information we can provide,” said Kathleen Gasperini, Executive Director of Boarding for Breast Cancer. “Our crown jewel event, the 7th Annual Boarding for Breast Cancer Snowboard + Music Festival, reaches out to thousands of people and combines music, fun, and education like no other sporting festival. With SNL Communications joining the cause, our story will make a larger impact. B4BC is extremely grateful for SoBe, Burton and Sierra-at-Tahoe’s continued support for the cause.”

B4BC’s Annual Snowboard + Music Festival combines live music from internationally acclaimed bands such as previous performers, The Beastie Boys (Quasar), Foo Fighters, Linkin Park and Blink 182, with pro snowboard exhibitions by the world’s top riders such as Shannon Dunn, Ross Powers, and Tina Basich. The festival atmosphere of educational tents and displays provides an interactive montage of breast cancer awareness programs, creating a fun-filled and informative event.

B4BC’s mission is to educate young people about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and the value of healthy life practices through our educational platforms of action sports, music and art events.

Since its inception in 1994, B4BC has raised over $1 million through its events and educational programs. Each year, B4BC awards grants to individuals and organizations that closely align with its mission, while continuing to develop B4BC’s own youth-oriented outreach programs, such as its Vans Warped Tour traveling education booth that has taught thousands of young people to do self-breast exams.

Past beneficiaries have included a research library for The Barton Memorial Hospital, Healing Legacies art support program, The Breast Cancer Fund and a variety of local organizations.
