All Proceeds from Two-Day Opening Will Be Donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
Copper Mountain, CO…October 17, 2001… Copper Mountain Resort opened this morning to provide the ski and snowboard community a welcome prelude to the 2001/2002 winter season. Skiers and riders enjoyed 900 vertical feet of terrain off the Excelerator lift from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and will be allowed to do so again tomorrow. The resort will then remain open for national race teams to commence their yearly training, and will reopen to the general public for the entire season on November 3. Lift ticket prices for these two days are a minimal $10 donation per day, which will be sent to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Season passes and Four Passes will not be valid.
Dubbed “Red, White and Blue Days”, early season revelers are uploading and downloading the American Eagle lift to gain access to the upper portion of the mountain and to preview Copper’s new snowmaking improvements. A new C-90 compressor was purchased and installed this past summer, nearly doubling Copper’s air capacity. This new compressor now allows Copper to run its state-of-the-art snowmaking system near full capacity, allowing Copper’s snowmaking team to develop snow more quickly, and in more abundance – providing the best early season Copper experience yet.
Receipts for all donations will be available upon request. For more information on Copper’s “Red, White and Blue Days”, call (800) 458-8386.
