Familia is one of the Mid West’s most legit skate shops, so TransWorld Business hit up General Manager Tucker Gerrick to see what footwear trends will look like in the new year. Here’s what he had to say:

How have your footwear sales been in 2009 versus 2008?

Sales have been pretty flat in footwear. Maybe up a little.

How do you decide what to stock on your store's shoe wall?

Color diversification. The whole aesthetic of the wall in general helps them all sell better—or worse.

What brands does your store carry, and of those brands, which are the best sellers this year?

Nike SB, Vans, Gravis IV Sk8, Lakai, Converse, DVS, IPath, and Adio, in that order.

How long do you expect vulcanized shoes to be on trend?

Vulc is still king. I think it will forever hold relevance now. Maybe it’ll give up a little market share, but only some.

How have cupsole shoes been selling in 2009, and do you expect them to retail well in 2010?

Cupsoles don’t really do it for us. We try. The Dunk and its varied heights are the exception for sure. Other key styles include the Busenitz [adidas] and some from IPath.

What styles/ brands do you expect to do well for your store in 2010?

Nike SB, Vans, Gravis, for sure.  I've got a good feeling about Converse too. I've also got to say that IPath's Spring 2010 line is one of the best I’ve seen from them.

Are you planning on bringing in any new shoe brands for 2010?

I'd be interested in it for sure. But at the same time I'd like to just grow the brands that are working well with us currently. Seems to be the smartest thing to do.
