Gotcha Takes Partnership Position in Backdoor TV With 65Historic Shows and Extensive Hawaiian Surf Video Archive

IRVINE, Calif. —(Business Wire)-Jan. 21, 2002 – Gotcha Brands (Gotcha), aleading global beach lifestyle brand for over 20 years, announced today thesigning of a five-year renewal of their agreement with Hawaiian televisionproducer and event promoter Reid Inouye, to sponsor his long running’Backdoor TV’ show. The new name for the show will be ‘Gotcha BackdoorTV,’and will continue to be produced monthly in Inouye’s studios and aired threetimes a week on Oceanic Cable in Hawaii. Future plans include broadernational and international distribution for the show.

Gotcha currently sponsors Inouye’s long running professional surfingPipeline event, now known as the ‘Gotcha Pipeline,’ scheduled to take placethis year from February 19th through March 3rd at the infamous BanzaiPipeline on the North Shore of Oahu. The event will be covered by GotchaBackdoorTV in Hawaii, as well as by BluetorchTV in both national andinternational markets. “Our long association with Gotcha has been excitingand mutually rewarding,” said Inouye. “We look forward to expanding ourrelationship, and are thrilled that Gotcha has made us a part of their longterm marketing plans.”

Gotcha BackdoorTV is the heart of a new Gotcha integrated promotionalstrategy being developed in Hawaii. In addition to Gotcha titling of theshow, Inouye will provide Gotcha with :30 commercial spots, some of whichwill be bartered to local radio stations for promotional time. Thisintegrated promotional vehicle will also be linked to in-store promotionswith Gotcha retailers. Long-term plans include the expansion of thisintegrated branding model to mainland US markets.

Gotcha Brands (Gotcha), a leading global beach lifestyle brand for over 20 years, announced today a six-year agreement with Hawaiian event promoter, Reid Inouye, to sponsor his long running Pipeline event. The extreme sports professional surfing event will be known as the “Gotcha Pipeline” and will take place this year from February 19th through March 3rd, at the infamous Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu.

The Gotcha Pipeline will be an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) four-star World Qualifying Series (WQS) event and is certain to attract a very strong field of ASP surfers plus a strong contingent of Pipeline regulars. Pipeline is a radical left breaking tube, generally regarded as one of, if not the most dangerous and spectacular wave in the world, with deep tube-rides often being scored at 10.0, a perfect score.

Gotcha is using the event to add a revolutionary element to it’s international brand image as a premium beach lifestyle brand and feels that the imagery of the vicious Pipeline wave, contrasted to the warm, balmy trade wind conditions and tropical Hawaiian backdrop, is the perfect complement to Gotcha’s extreme sport and beach lifestyle heritage.

The Gotcha Pipeline will be covered by BluetorchTV, in both the domestic and international marketplaces, and will be the focus of a one-hour show BluetorchTV is planning to do on the action sports and lifestyle scene in Hawaii.
