O’Neill Clothing USA today announced the promotion of Kelly Gibson to president. Gibson will oversee the day-to-day operations, focusing on product direction, marketing, and sales.
“I am very excited about this opportunity,” says Gibson. “We’ve built a great team of people over the past couple of years and everyone is really excited about the direction that the brand is headed. My goal is to keep the team focused on developing high quality, innovative products for surfers.”
Gibson has been a part of the surfing world for over 20 years. He started his career as one of the top amateurs in the NSSA and was a part of the famed ’83 national team. He then moved into the pro ranks and competed for 8 years on the ASP. In 1992 Gibson started his career on the other side of the fence as a sales representative, and after seven years on the road, Gibson moved into management.
In 1999, Gibson joined O’Neill Clothing USA as national sales manager. In 2000 he was promoted to VP of sales and marketing. In 2001 Gibson was promoted to executive vice president, and now president in 2002.
According to John Warner, CEO of O’Neill Clothing, “Kelly’s promotion will allow us to focus more attention on our important O’Neill business and at the same time allow me to spend more time on our other businesses and new opportunities. It’s a real win-win situation for the company and I’m very excited and confident to have Kelly assume the responsibilities.”
Gibson goes on to say, “I will also be working closely with Pat O’Neill on the global brand direction. We are currently one of the world’s leading surf labels, but we can strengthen our global presence through more consistency and focus.”
