Mike Kaplan Promoted To Chief Operating Officer of Aspen Skiing Company

Aspen/Snowmass Village, CO. – Aspen Skiing Company is pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Kaplan to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO). In his new position Mike will continue to oversee all mountain, food and beverage and ski school operations. In addition, he is now responsible for company-wide human resources and retail operations. Mike will continue to report directly to Pat O’Donnell, President and CEO Aspen Skiing Company.

On Kaplan’s promotion O’Donnell said, “Mike has done an exceptional job as Senior Vice President, Mountain Operations during the past six years. He has taken the quality of our product and service to their highest levels in our history and he is ready for a bigger challenge.”

Kaplan began his career in Aspen, Colo. in the fall of 1993 as Ski School Supervisor at Aspen Mountain. The following year he was promoted to Manager of the Ski School at Snowmass, and then spent four years overseeing the combined Ski/Snowboard Schools of Aspen. In 1999, he took over mountain operations for the four Aspen Skiing Company mountains. Before coming to Aspen, Mike spent six years at Taos Ski Valley learning the ropes in a variety of positions including snowmaking, ski school, lift and vehicle maintenance, grooming, patrol, and retail operations. Mike received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in 1986 and his MBA from the University of Denver 1993.
