Reef recently raised more than 4,750 dollars for the Surfrider Foundation during its’ “Wheel of Fortune” promotion. The company paid for 40 new memberships to the foundation and raised more than 3,775 dollars in cash at the September and January Surf Expo and September and February ASR tradeshows.
“The Surfrider Foundation fights on behalf of every person who surfs, swims, walks along or admires the ocean. It makes perfect sense to support them in any way we can,” states Reef Co-founder Fernando Aguerre.
Contestants lined up to make a donation to Surfrider and had one spin on a “Wheel of Fortune” game-board. Donations came in amounts of a few dollars to fifty dollars and Reef matched all of the donations one hundred percent. Prizes like trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas, autographed pro teamrider boards, cash, footwear, pictures with Miss Reef, and more were given away. All of the money raised was donated to the Surfrider Foundation.
Chris Evans, executive director of the Surfrider Foundation states, “The Surfrider Foundation greatly appreciates Reef’s generous support of our mission to protect the world’s oceans, waves, and beaches.” The money will be used to support the ongoing efforts of Surfrider such as testing the ocean for contaminants, mapping of coastline to establish man’s direct effect on the shoreline and the national educational program Respect the Beach that reaches thousands of children each year.
