Teichgraeber To Run Helly Hansen Wintersport Business Unit

BELLEVUE, Wash. – In yet another executive power move, Helly Hansen has recruited snowboard industry maven Tobin Teichgraeber, formerly with Salomon North America, to manage the outdoor apparel maker’s international Wintersports business unit. Previously Teichgraeber directed Salomon North America’s snowboarding group and Bonfire apparel. He also worked at the Salomon headquarters in France as the international snowboard marketing director and boot and binding product manager.

As business unit manager, Teichgraeber will lead and manage all aspects of the global development of the Helly Hansen brand within the Wintersports category, including skiing, snowboarding and related winter-based activities. Teichgraeber will join Helly Hansen’s U.S. office, based in Bellevue, Wash., in late September.

The announcement is the latest in a series of significant executive moves in and around Helly Hansen. In August, Gary Davis, an 18-year Nike Canada executive took the reins as general manager for Helly Hansenís Canadian subsidiary. Ric Long, who helped revive the ailing adidas brand in the early 1990s, stepped in as president and CEO of Helly Hansen North America late last year. Earlier in 2000, Jan Valdmaa, another high ranking adidas official, was named president and CEO of Helly Hansen ASA, the parent company based in Moss, Norway. Teichgraeberís appointment is a sign of Helly Hansenís aggressive plans in the Wintersports category.

Helly Hansen manufactures and distributes performance apparel in 36 countries. The company has been perfecting its technical apparel designs since founder Helly Juell Hansen invented his first durable, water-proof fabrics for North Sea commercial fishermen nearly 125 years ago. Today Helly Hansen produces base layer, thermal and protective layer clothing for skiing, snowboarding, sailing and boating, mountaineering and a multitude of outdoor activities.
