Van Potomac Mills Skatepark Opens

Vans, Inc. announced that the Company achieved a record opening day at its fourth and largest Vans Skatepark at Potomac Mills in Woodbridge, Virginia, a suburb of Washington D.C. Potomac Mills is Virginia’s top tourist attraction with over 24 million visitors per year.

In addition to over a thousand visitors who physically came to the park for the opening on April 15, thousands more logged on to Vans’ Web site, www.vans.com, to view live simulcasts from the event. Attendees were also treated to free food and drinks, giveaways, and autograph sessions by professional athletes such as Tony Hawk and John Cardiel to name a few.

Mr. Schoenfeld added, “Potomac is our first park on the East Coast and the tremendous traffic and enthusiasm surrounding the park opening gives us even more evidence that skateboarding continues to grow in popularity and the demand for these types of facilities continues to increase,” said Vans President and CEO Gary Schoenfeld. “These parks represent an exciting part of what we do.”

The Potomac Mills park features a right-hand kidney pool, light-bulb shaped pee-wee pool, 40-foot wide competition halfpipe, 48-foot wide mini-ramp with a slight hip and bowl, stunt jump area, 6,000-square-foot pee-wee street course, pee-wee mini-ramp, as well as an 8,000-square-foot sunken simulated street course complete with stairs, ledges, and benches.

Following the opening of the Vans Skatepark in Woodbridge, Virginia, Vans now operates four skateparks with other locations in Orange, California, Bakersfield, California, and Ontario, California. Each facility is unique in size, layout, and design of the parks’ skateable features and pools. The Vans Skatepark in Ontario, California also includes an indoor BMX street course and outdoor BMX dirt jumping area. Future Vans Skateparks are scheduled to open in Milpitas, California, Houston, Texas, and Westminster, Colorado by the end of the year, with future skateparks planned for Orlando, Florida, Detroit, Michigan, and Toronto, Canada.
