Vans is planning to put together a documentary movie on the fabled Pipe Masters surf contest held annually on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. According to Jay Wilson, Vans vice president of marketing, the company will be working on the movie this fall and is planning a spring release.
Part of the preparation for the event will include a special segment showing the top surfers from the 80s out at Pipe this year. The part will be filmed at special times during the Pipe Masters in December.
The Pipe Masters is the final and most prestigious stop on the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing held on the North Shore every November and December. This year’s Pipe program will be produced by Surfing magazine and will look more like a coffee table book than an event program, says Wilson.
Vans is also working on a highly anticipated and much-delayed documentary movie about the Dogtown skateboard movement from the 70s. It’s also scheduled to be out next year.
