Vans Skatepark In Milpitas, California Opens June 23

On Friday, June 23, Vans will host a grand opening celebration in Milpitas, California of its fifth skatepark. The public event will include autograph sessions and demos by several pro skaters, including Steve Caballero, who was instrumental in the design of this skatepark.

“We’re very excited about our latest venture,” says Neal Lyons, Vans president of retail. “The Bay Area is a major hub for skateboarders and much of the skateboarding industry, so it’s only fitting that we open our next Vans Skatepark in Milpitas, just north of San Jose.

The new Vans Skatepark will contain the following skateable features: Professional pool with a five-foot deep square shallow end that drops to a twelve-foot deep round end; Pee-wee pool with a three-foot deep rectangular shallow end that drops to a five-foot deep Mickey Mouse-eared deep end; Replica of the Winchester washboard bowl; 40-foot wide competition halfpipe; 48-foot wide mini-ramp with a slight hip and bowl; 5,000 plus square-foot pee-wee street course; 15,000 plus square-foot intermediate and professional street course complete with banks, ramps, ledges, and rails.

The Vans Skatepark will also include a Vans retail store that carries Vans’ skate, BMX, and snowboard footwear and apparel, as well as a complete pro shop that sells skate, BMX, and snowboard hardgoods and accessories from various companies. The skatepark will also include an interactive video-game area and a viewing area for spectators.

Vans currently operates four skateparks: Orange, California; Bakersfield,California; Ontario, California; and Woodbridge, Virginia. Each facility isunique in size, layout, and design of the parks’ skateable features andpools. The Vans Skatepark in Ontario, California also includes an indoorBMX street course and outdoor BMX dirt jumping area. In addition to theMilpitas location, Vans Skateparks are scheduled to open in Houston, Texasand Westminster, Colorado by the end of the year, with future skateparksplanned for Detroit, Michigan, Orlando, Florida and Toronto, Canada.
