Wintersteiger USA, a manufacturer of snowboard- and ski- tuning equipment, has signed an agreement under which Fontaine Metal Products of Sacramento, California will produce machines exclusively for Wintersteiger. The machines will include a snowboard waxer, side and base edger, and a snowboard-belt grinder, and will be marketed under the Wintersteiger brand name and distributed in the United States and Canadian markets.
"This type of cooperation makes a lot of sense for both companies," says Fritz Hoeckner, president of Wintersteiger USA. "Fontaine can focus on production, while we focus on marketing."
Wintersteiger will also take over technical service for all existing Fontaine machines by the end of this season as well as supplying all accessories to support both new and older Fontaine models. A mailing explaining the change and introducing the service program will be sent out to all Fontaine accounts by the end of January.
The partnership will allow Wintersteiger to complement its existing product lineup with a very competitive assortment of smaller machines. "We are known for machines with a higher technology," says Hoeckner. "The deal allows us to offer machines to smaller shops."
Wintersteiger will now offer a very comprehensive machine range beginning with a small side edger for 2,500 dollars to fully automated tuning centers for 100,000 dollars.
