Retail Wednesdays: Aussie Island Surf Shop

Editors Note: We are proud to present a new series, Retail Wednesdays, powered by our friends over at Building the Revolution. Each week we’ll profile a different core specialty retailer. Most would agree these guys are the backbone of our industry, and deserve serious credit in evolving to fit the needs of a rapidly changing market.

How has business been so far in 2017?

It started with a bang! Even though the weather did not cooperate with the mountains, it was great for us. The warm spring was great for our beach store as well.

What are you doing to evolve with today’s retail market?

Our go-to has always been cutting edge products and great customer service. Whatever our customers’ needs are, we make them feel comfortable.

How do you think brands can better assist brick and mortar retailers?

To start with, put retailers first by not selling online at discounted rates and dumping product at discount stores. Salty Crew is setting a great example.

What is the future for surf shops?

Sad to say, but we think a decline in surf shops is almost inevitable. Support your local surf shop!
