Toe Jam has been hosted at OWC in Orlando,Fl for a couple years now. The obstacles haven't changed and the cable is still going counter clockwise. What has changed is the level of riding. New riders breaking through the ranks of veterans that have been attending the event since the beginning . Big name stars like Brian Grubb and Brandon Thomas falling out early in the competition to new and hungry wakeskaters. There were many upsets today and riders falling on tricks they shouldn't be falling on.
The unfamiliar flat water of OWC lately allowed for riders to take advantage of real estate between sliders. Being a cable contest the judging is rail heavy but using the open real estate to land some flats tricks helps. The top 16 was a head to head format, requiring riders to battle it out to make it to semis. The top 8 riders consisted of Andrew Pastura Vs Aaron Reed, Bret Little vs Kyle Hyams, Clint Thompkins vs John Raurk, Stu Shinn vs Reed Hansen. Andew Pastura just couldn't hold it together falling on a familiar frontside flip in the corner to allow Aaron Reed to squeeze by. Bret Little had been riding on top of his game all day with his Box antics and was able to beat out Kyle Hyams. Clint Thompkins also was riding good all day and allowed him to beat out cable star John Ruark. Reed Hansen the current USA WWA cable champion was beaten by Stu Shinn in a very close heat.
The Final four came down to a showdown under the blaring hot sun on this hot 4th of July. You would think that rockets were going off watching the riders go huge off the kickers and stomping on the boxes. Clint Thompkins known for throwing down in the past at OWC fell on some unusual tricks and allowed Stu Shinn to ease by. The Texas Boy showdown between Aaron Reed and Bret Little was just as interesting.
The final two, showdown between Bret Little and Stu shinn had the spectators on their seat edges. Bret returned to the water with the same presence he had all day. Falling on a the big kicker brought the idea that Stu might be able to beat him. But Bret brought it back together and finished out the run strong. Stu Shinn just couldn't manage to muster enough tricks together to beat out Bret.
Congratulations to Bret Little.
