Behind Lakey Peterson’s inspirational rise

Lakey Peterson will be heading into this year’s U.S. Open of Surfing as a 19-year-old defending champion. That’s some serious pressure for a teenager. But according to filmmaker Aaron Lieber, who just released “Zero to 100: The Lakey Peterson story,” after spending a year on tour with Peterson, young women on the ASP World Tour are much more mature than their male counterparts, and up to the challenge. As evidence he points to Stephanie Gilmore, the oldest woman on the ladies side. “She’s 24 years old, and she has five world titles,” he says.
